Besides Slobo and Bill, also Clara pulled the strings

Clara Schumann, the famous German pianist and composer, was posthumous not only one of the most influential personalities in German-speaking countries, but particularly on the Balkans. She was on the head of the most popular bank-note in south-east Europe - 100 DM bank-note. Clara Schumann became thereby for the inhabitants of the Balkans a kind of icon, which this year unfortunately said good-bye. Since the native currencies had lost the trustworthiness because of galloping inflation, Clara Schumann became the ruling goddess.

She saw everything

Her glance, her eyes and careful smile were permanent present in subconscious of the Balkan people. While in Germany and other western countries the conversion to Euro is rather pragmatically experienced, the feeling of the distrust and the disaster outweighs on the Balkan because of Clara's disappearing.



Ivana painted Clara for a period of 4 years

            

         

"A great talent on the Balkans is the 28 year-old Serbian painter Ivana Jaksic, who gave Clara Schumann a new dimension, by painting the note highly increased on 2 meters high oil pictures in a hair-fine arduous 4 years' work (without computers). Ivana "zoomed" into Clara inside that some pictures represent face parts, others slide into abstraction. "


Short biography of Ivana Jaksic



Born in Belgrade 1973. Graduated at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1996 in the class of Prof. Radomir Reljic. Finished post-graduate studies with the same professor in 1998. Several group and two individual exhibitions in Belgrade. Several Awards.

"Kraljevic Marko" - the prince Marko is a historical personality from the Serbian Middle Ages, who became a myth of the invincible hero.

In the time, when Ivana prepared its exhibition, Serbia was direct hinterland of the war. The stylised-ironical figure of the king prince Marko expresses Ivana's anti-war attitude and protest.




Ivana comes to Vienna



In cooperation with Ivan Ristic, an art historian living in Vienna, TOLIKAS tries to organize an exhibition for Ivana Jaksic.
